Login with mobile phone App (TOTP)


At the RUB, only the degree programs of the Engineering Faculties, Computer Science, and most degree programs of the Faculty of Business and Economics are managed via FlexNow. If you are unsure whether students in your degree program should have access to FlexNow, please check our FAQ entry “Which courses are covered by Flex­Now?”, located at the bottom of this page.

If you are certain that you need access to FlexNow: The two-factor authentication is probably not enabled for you. To access FlexNow, the two-factor authentication must be enabled for your login ID. To check if it is enabled, please open the RUB's “Identity Management” portal in a web browser (we recommend Chrome or Firefox):

Please log in with your RUB-LoginID and the corresponding password, using the same credentials as for eCampus or your RUB email account. Three scenarios must then be distinguished:


Scenario A:
-----------

This scenario applies if you are logged in immediately after clicking the dark blue “Log in” / “Anmelden” button (in Identity Management). In this case, you will see a simple page with five or six dark blue buttons in the center.

In this case, two-factor authentication is not yet activated for you. Please follow the instructions found on the page:

(or search for “RUB 2-factor authentication” on Google).

Scroll to the bottom of this page, open the “Initial setup” section, and follow the linked instructions.

We recommend using a smartphone app instead of a hardware token.


If you haven't yet registered for an exam in FlexNow, which is especially likely if you're in the first few weeks of your first semester, then this is probably scenario A. However, if you've already tried to set up two-factor authentication, alternative scenarios B and C might be more helpful.


Scenario B:
-----------

This scenario applies if, after clicking “Register” / “Anmelden”, you see a screen displaying a QR code (i.e., a square pixel image). In this case, you've started setting up two-factor authentication, but haven't yet completed the process. Please follow the instructions above for “Scenario A”, but go directly to the section with the QR code (“Step 9”).


Scenario C:
-----------

This case occurs when, after clicking “Login”, you are presented with a screen where you are asked to either enter a “security code” / “Sicherheitscode” or select a “login method”.

If you are unable to obtain the security code using the “authenticator app” (such as ForgeRock), for example, because you have a new smartphone, then section 2.F.c) “ForgeRock-App nicht mehr nutzbar“ on page 11 of our login troubleshooting document addresses your situation. Unfortunately, this document is only available in German. Please use the latest version of the troubleshooting document. You can download it from our homepage:

To do so, please click on the gray “Instructions & Privacy” button below “Login with Mobile Phone App” and then on “Troubleshooting for logging in using the App” in the expanded section.

There, in the box with the button "Login with mobile phone app", click on the button "Instruction manuals" and then, in the text that appears, on the link "Troubleshooting for logging in".

There are two cases to distinguish:
a) A QR code is displayed when you log in.
In this case, your existing ForgeRock account is no longer valid. Please delete the account within your ForgeRock app and scan the QR code which is displayed. This step is described in detail in the document "Login to FlexNow" and there in subchapter 3.D "Only Once: Scan the QR-Code shown in the PC browser with the ForgeRock app".

b) No QR code is displayed.
Please refer to the Troubleshooting document, there in section 2. E "Andere Fehlermeldung oder es geht nicht weiter", and try the solutions given there.

Further questions


You can log in to FlexNow on all computers on campus that you can use. You can find these computers, for example, in the CIP islands of your faculty or in the university library. See also Locations & Contact persons in the faculties and more links.

If you are a student and have already been exmatriculated by the RUB Registrar’s Office, you can unfortunately no longer access FlexNow. This is because ex-students should not be able to access the RUB systems for as long as they want (due to data security). However, you can continue to use your RUB email account for one year upon request, for further details see https://www.it-services.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/ias/mailkonzept.html. The Registrar's Office will exmatriculate you upon your request or a few weeks after the start of the semester if you have not yet transferred your semester fee. If you only need one more data sheet, then you can contact us at FlexNow-RUB-Support (support@flexnow.rub.de, from your RUB email account).

Students of all other degree programmes (e.g. diploma or other examination regulations) can only view their examination results via the examination office.

You can change the address data which is displayed in FlexNow on the "Student's data" page under "Personal data" in eCampus under "Stammdaten/ Adressänderung". After the address change in eCampus, it will take up to two days until these changes are also visible in FlexNow. If you need the change urgently, write an email to us at FlexNow-RUB-Support (support@flexnow.rub.de). Because we can get your data into the FlexNow system in just one day through a manual action.
